Holiday
Creative Musicianship: Irish musicians
by Jason Hannah on Mar.17, 2010, under Holiday
This afternoon I was supposed to post part 3 to the “Why Do You Create Music” series, but to be perfectly honest, when I was planning my schedule for the week on this blog, I didn’t take into account that today is St Patrick’s Day.
So, in honor of the Holiday, I hope you’ll forgive me that I’m going to put off the Part 3 post for one day and instead post some videos of some people playing some Irish or Irish-inspired music.
Maybe you’ll watch these videos and decide to go write your own St Patrick’s Day song!
John Joe Kelly Bodhran solo
I am fascinated by the Bodhran drum. I bought one after watching this guy play. He makes it look so easy. It’s not even 10% as easy as he makes it seem. He’s incredible.
The Corrs
I’ve taken an interest in the Coors over the past few years as well… partly because I got the opportunity to talk to Andrea Corr a handful of times on MySpace before her profile became overwhelmed with people adding her, and she is a very nice person… but also partly because I’ve taken an interest in some of the simple Celtic instruments that they put into their songs.
This is a clip of them playing Haste To The Wedding live. It shows off some Irish sounds from the violin, tin whistle, and bodhran
Celtic Guitar
And, because I’m a guitar player, we have to include some Celtic guitar in this post.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone! Make some great holiday music!
Happy Thanksgiving!
by Jason Hannah on Nov.26, 2009, under Holiday

I hope everyone out there has a happy Thanksgiving!
Maybe if you can find some time you’ll discover a new genre of “Thanksgiving Carols”, or perhaps you’ll figure out how to turn your turkey pan into some crazy instrument. Or maybe you’ll just write a song about breaking the wishbone.
Whatever you do, enjoy your day!
Happy Thanksgiving!
